SIA shares progress update and early detail on notifying premises

The SIA's Executive Director for Martyn's Law, Laura Gibb, has published an update on GOV.UK about the regulator's progress in getting ready for the new regime. The post also sets out new information about the notification requirement — the step where certain premises will need to tell the SIA who they are and who is responsible for them. The SIA is the body that will oversee Martyn's Law once the duties come into force.

This is preparation news, not a change to the law today. The duties under the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 are not yet in force — commencement is expected in spring 2027, with the exact date still to be confirmed. Premises where 200 to 799 people may reasonably be expected at the same time fall in the standard tier. Those expecting 800 or more fall in the enhanced tier.
